POSITION TITLE: Application Developer:PHP/MYSQL GRADE LEVEL: SC 7 CONTRACT TYPE: Service Contract (National Project Personnel)
DUTY STATION: Nairobi, Kenya with potential travel to Somalia ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT:FAO-Somalia DURATION: 6 Months with possible extension

Under the overall guidance of the Officer in Charge (O.I.C.) FAO Somalia and the direct supervision of the Information management officer, the expert will support the development of FAO Somalia data and information management systems.
Specifically, the incumbent will use PHP/MYSQL/JavaScript with CodeIgniter Framework (and other programming languages), design, develop, and implement a data/information tools to efficiently collect, store, analyze, and distribute data and information. His/her overall tasks;
• Research existing FAOSO tools (FMT, BITS, FIDS, ABCD, D-Space, others) to establish whether existing open source software can be utilized. • Review output formats to better understand expected outputs from the system (to be received from technical managers). • Work with other application developers to establish the changes, bugs, and enhancements for the applications. • Liaise with other application and database developers to ensure the application is integrated into the FIDS and current central database system • Assist in development and implementation of the application in consultation with the information management officer, the team leader, the database programmer, the FIDS application developer, and others. • Receive input from the above-mentioned staffs and modify the application where necessary and test its applicability to ensure it conforms to the specifications and, prepare the necessary technical documentations for the application. • Arrange weekly meetings to receive feedback from above-mentioned staffs and monthly meetings with end users (technical managers). • Bug test software to ensure its reliability and stability. • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Education: University degree in Computer or Information Science or a related field, or compensated by additional years of experience or by specialized training in web application development.
Work Experience: At least 5 years of experience in web application development
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English
Selection Criteria Knowledge of the following Computer Languages: Frameworks: CodeIgniter Scripting: PHP, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax Database: MySQL, PostGreSQL Web Server: Apache Version Control: SVN, or others.
