Job Description:
The Budget Manager plays a vital, hands-on, role within the six-person management team for the Africa Program, WCS's largest field program with an annual budget of $35 million. The primary function of the Budget Manager is to assist with the budgetary, financial, and grants management of the Program, working closely with the Senior Program Manager in NY, programmatic and financial staff in Africa, and WCS's Finance Department.
Tasks include:
' Support the Africa program in all aspects of preparing and managing the Program's annual budget, including tracking, making timely budget adjustments, and reviewing budget adjustments made by other Africa program staff, and assist in addressing any issues regarding financial management.
' In addition to the WCS annual budget, the Budget Manager will support program staff in the preparation of budgets for proposal submissions.
' Coordinate grant-tracking and reporting.
' Ensure quality control of revenue and expense booking.
DETAIL OF RESPONSIBILITIES
' Budget management and financial oversight. The Budget Manager's primary role is to coordinate with Africa program staff to develop the annual budget for the NY office of the Africa Program and for the 12 country program offices in Africa. Duties include: review budgets, flag issues, and manage the budget cycle, including monitoring and managing flow in development of Africa budgets and ensuring that budgets are kept up to date. Track and verify budget reports from projects and oversee submissions of budget versions to other WCS offices in NY and the field. Review revenue versus budget & expense reports and assist in reconciling and ensuring quality control of financial management and systems transactions. Assist Program staff in NY and field staff to compile accounting reports in collaboration with WCS's Global Services Center (GSC).
' Grants Reporting. Work with country program staff and WCS's GSC to ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance with donor guidelines. Coordinate reporting to funding sources including private donors, foundations, corporations, and international and governmental agencies. Help prepare financial reports. With GSC and the Grants Management Unit, prepare at times complex grants extension/modification requests to donors.
Experience:
' BS degree in Finance, Accounting, Non-profit Management, or equivalent.
' Demonstrated experience in financial management, including budget development, tracking, and reporting.
' Excellent organizational skills, including ability to set and follow priorities, take initiative, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
' Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including writing and editing. Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality.
' Computer literacy in Word and Excel and ability to learn other systems (Sun, SAP).
' Comfortable operating in a dynamic, international environment and responding quickly to sudden needs and opportunities.
' Spoken and written fluency in English required; proficiency in French a plus.
' Sincere interest in Africa and conservation issues necessary, and experience working with international colleagues desired.
