Chemonics International Inc., a leading international consulting firm based in Washington, D.C., seeks experienced professionals for an anticipated livestock growth project in Kenya funded by USAID.
This five year contract aims to improve the inclusiveness and competitiveness of livestock value chains in Marsabit and Garissa while furthering livestock-related economic opportunities.
Specific areas of expertise include: improved livestock productivity, animal science, range management, livestock marketing, dairy/meat processing, agribusiness management, pastoral livestock systems, animal nutrition/health, and breeding.
Chief of Party
- Minimum 10 years experience, including 5 years as COP or Senior Programme Manager, working in livestock or agricultural development programs in the Horn of Africa, including pastoral areas.
- Strong communications skills and proven ability to work collaboratively with host-country officials, donor organizations, and other key stakeholders.
Value Chain Competitiveness and Inclusiveness Expert / DCOP
- Minimum 10 years regional/international experience in relevant technical sector.
- Demonstrated success implementing programs using USAID’s facilitated value chains/M4P approach.
- Strong background in gender integration and women’s empowerment.
Livestock Specialist
- Minimum 10 years experience in livestock development, including marketing and processing.
- Minimum 5 years experience managing or evaluating livestock programs in the Horn of Africa.
- Experience in Marsabit or Garissa preferred.
M&E / Communications Specialist
- Minimum 5 years experience with monitoring, tracking outcome indicators, and qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis for complex and medium scale international development programs, or other relevant M&E experience
- Prior experience with database management preferred
All candidates must possess Master’s degree in relevant field or Bachelor’s degree plus additional 7 years experience to the minimums listed above, and English fluency.
Experience in Kenya or E. Africa, specifically in pastoral areas, preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree plus at least 7 years relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree plus at least 10 years relevant experience
- Proven track record in successful delivery of technical assistance and management/supervisory experience on large, complex development programs
- Prior experience with USAID projects strongly preferred
- Understanding of Feed the Future performance indicators preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- For senior positions, at least 5 years of experience designing, managing, and implementing multifaceted agricultural development, food security, and nutrition programs.
