Objectives
The African Development Bank’s Field Office in Sudan (SDFO) was established to strengthen dialogue between the Bank and the government of Sudan, development partners, donors, the private sector, and the civil society. This dialogue is expected to enhance and foster the design of the Bank’s development policies and programs, as well as the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the country’s development policies and poverty reduction strategy. SDFO also seeks to assist and facilitate the execution of the core operational functions of the Bank Group in identifying, preparing, appraising and implementing projects and programs in Sudan, and follow-up with a view to enhancing portfolio quality, promotion of participatory approaches, alignment with country and regional priorities and enhancing impacts.
The Bank invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Driver, to be based in Sudan, Khartoum. This is a local position which does not attract international terms and conditions.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the administrative supervision of the Resident Representative (SDFO), the incumbent will maintain strict compliance with the Bank’s policies and guidelines, providing safe and reliable driving services to the Bank’s officials and visitors. Day to day duties and responsibilities will include:
- Transport African Development Bank Group staff and visiting missions which can include travel outside the duty station (inclusive of airport drops/pickup, and other official errands).
- Delivery/collection of mail, documents and other items for the SDFO office.
- Ensure that vehicles are well maintained and are road worthy.
- Maintain accurate records on mileage and fuel consumption/use to be compliant with AfDB operational regulations; including vehicle insurance and other transportation protocols of host country.
- Ensure availability of vehicle installed first aid kit/supplies, and vital emergency tools and spare parts;
- Represent the Bank in a professional manner and appearance and conduct at all times.
- Assist in preparation of daily vehicle movement/assignment schedules.
- Performs any other tasks/duties as may be assigned.
Selection Criteria
Including desirable skills, knowledge and experience
- A valid Driver’s License.
- Sudanese Secondary Certificate or Advanced Level Certificate of Education (A ‘Level).
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience as a driver in an international/multinational organization, or public or private sector organization.
- Must have working knowledge of the rules and regulations involved in the safe and efficient operation of automotive equipment.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients from different cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of basic automotive repair, maintenance and emergency assistance procedures.
- Demonstrates excellent knowledge of security issues including security driving skills; and ensure strict adherence to the Security Procedures as established by the Bank.
- High sense of confidentiality; and ability to develop strong understanding of AfDB work and institutional policies/objectives.
- Ability to communicate and write effectively in English and/or French, with a good knowledge of the other language.
- Competence in the use of standard software e.g. Microsoft Word and use of internet.
