OVERALL DESCRIPTION
General Description of the Program
GOAL has been working in South Sudan since 1998. GOAL South Sudan currently has four programme sites: Twic County, Warrap; Agok, Abyei Administrative Area (AAA); Sobat and Maban, Upper Nile State; The current GOAL programmes focuses on four main sectors: Primary health care, Nutrition, Water, sanitation and hygiene promotion (WASH), women’s Adult literacy Education Programme (REFLECT) and sustainable livelihoods.
General Description of the Role
Enrolled Nursing Officer will take day to day tasks and duties for the management of the patients in the clinic including but not limited to dressing and injections, wound care, immunisation, sterilisation of clinic reusable equipment. The incumbent will be managed by the Clinical officer in charge. The enrolled nurse will also ensure that all inventories for the clinic is taken and ordering for the clinic needs is done as needed from the main warehouse. The nursing officer will also be responsible for in patients and drug administration to the patients in the wards.
This position demands excellent knowledge in curative, reproductive, neonatal and preventative health. The nursing officer will need to work closely with other departments
Key Duties
• Support the clinic set up in Batil refugee’s camp.
• Manage all the inpatients in the ward by ensuring that patients’ welfare is taken care of through medication, patient follow up and monitoring of the vital signs as prescribed, ensures ward cleanliness is maintained with all the aseptic and universal precautions followed.
• Ensures that all medical wastes are disposal appropriately through incineration.
• Inject all pregnant mothers and Women of Child bearing age (WCBA) with TT as per their immunisation schedule.
• Ensure all children <1 receive immunisation as per their immunisation schedule.
• Ensure that children <5 are dewormed and given Vitamin A supplementation as per schedule.
• Screen all the children with MUAC and Weight. Height will also be taken if necessary for children below six months – ensuring that severely malnourished children are treated accordingly as per the MOH guidelines.
• Ensure infection control in curative and preventative (EPI department) health units by sweeping, dump dusting, washing, and disinfecting, decontaminating, sterilising and correct use of gloves at all the time before, when and after handling the clients.
• Accompany referred patients from Batil health facilities to the referral points.
• Give health and nutrition education before patients diagnosis and treatment start in the health facility.
• Work in patient registration and triaging of the severely sick patients and prioritising them for being diagnosed and treated first.
• Data for the activities undertaken is recorded per department and using the correct format per each data set.
Requirements (Person Specification)
• Qualified Enrolled Nursing Officer with relevant courses (such as EmONC)
• Hands on experience in all the nursing procedures in a health facility set up.
• Good interpersonal skills
• Fluent in spoken and written English
• Enthusiastic and keen to work extra hours to achieve the objectives of the programme
• Willingness to re-locate and live in basic condition
