Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), a joint venture between Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and black economic empowerment (BBBEE) partners - Blue Horizon, is a leading producer of titanium minerals, high purity iron and zircon. RBM, a Rio Tinto Managed company, was formed in 1976 to mine and process the heavy minerals found in the coastal sands of northern KwaZulu Natal. The mine production output contributes significantly to South Africa's gross domestic product especially to the economy of KwaZulu Natal.

MAIN PURPOSES OF THE JOB:
This is a production function, incorporating the mining activities of the Supplementary Mining units. These units provide additional ore feed to the main mining plants, and supplementing the feed to the concentrator provided by the main dredger.
The second purpose is to provide utility and infrastructure services to support the mining operations. This covers the activities of the relocation and installation of equipment, reticulation of water to the entire site, maintenance of stockpiles and internal roads. The function also covers the activities of the pre -mining bush clearing, and the post mining land rehabilitation.
JOB OBJECTIVES:
- Lead and manage the safety, human resource, financial, operational, and technical, mine asset management and capital expenditure of the Mine Services department.
- Functionally and geographically responsible for bush clearing, rehabilitation and out-of-service equipment in the entire Zulti North, Zulti South, Tisand and Town Board Mine lease areas and all employees and contractors who work for and supply services to you in those areas.
- Manage all supplementary mining associated with all mining ponds including the delivery of material into the mining pond operational pipeline and booster systems.
- Manage compliance with legal, company and industry requirements.
- Ensure legislative compliance to the Mine Health and Safety Act as a 7.4 appointee.
- Safely support the operations to meet the annual production plan in terms of quantity and quality, within budgetary cost restraints to evaluate change and initiate alternative actions to ensure target achievement.
- Set long-term strategic objectives to enhance mine performance.
- Manage the complement and competence of staff and direct reports and foster relationships, promoting teamwork and motivation.
- Performs fair and reasonable tasks at the level of accountability required, related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the General Manager,

- 10 years post graduate experience, of which 5 years should be in operations management within a heavy industry environment
- MBA, MDP or any other relevant management qualification would be advantageous
- Demonstrate experience in occupational safety leadership
- Driver's Licence: EB
