Principal Advisor - Procurement and Contracts, Technology & Innovation - PDI

Rio Tinto Technology and Innovation has a requirement to fill a Principal Advisor - Procurement & Contracts, Technology & Innovation - PDI position within their Project Development and Implementation (PDI) group. The PDI group has a Project Delivery Hub located in Salt Lake City, UT USA.

Technology and Innovation's (T&I) mandate is to increase the contribution of technology to Rio Tinto's vision of industry leadership. Project Development & Implementation (PDI), as part of T&I, provides support and project delivery services across the global Rio Tinto group.

The Principal Advisor - Procurement & Contracts leads the management of procurement activities in the Feasibility and Implementation phases of a major project. The role is accountable for commercially focused outcomes for the project and ensures that the owners' perspective on procurement requirements is well represented in the strategies planned with RTP or EPCM contractors. This role is also aligned with the PMO Commercial team that defines Procurement strategy, standards, processes and tools for PDI.

Accountabilities:

• Establishing in conjunction with project management, a clear definition of procurement and contract accountabilities and responsibilities across the Hub
• Developing a template for the formulation of the project material and contracts assignment schedule across the Hub
• Working with project managers (EPCM and Project) to identify synergies and value add opportunities by:
• Actively engaging and supporting Rio Tinto Strategy with respect to Market Development and Emerging Market Sourcing
• Demonstrating flexible approaches to sourcing locations
• Measure procurement progress and report against pre agreed project templates
• Keep track of emerging procurement issues, information, technology as well as regulatory trends and apply where appropriate
• As a procurement and contracts subject matter expert, contribute to developing and promoting a common global Procurement template for repeated success in new project implementation
• Influence decisions based on understanding of projects; procurement strategies and other commercial drivers
• Manage the on-going alignment of the procurement plan with the changing business needs within the dynamic projects environment

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in related field

• 10 - 15 years experience in procurement / contracts or commercial role within large complex projects

• Managing supplier relationships on a global level or across multiple regions

• Implementation of innovative supply strategies

• Utilizing good judgment, fostering sound relationships and engendering high credibility with internal and external stakeholders

• Operating effectively:

• In a leadership role

• Under pressure

• In a rapidly changing business environment

• In a diverse work environment

• International exposure or working in a global environment

• Experience in a mining, resources or manufacturing environment

• Experience in multi-country, multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary environments

• Project management
