Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives. Christian Aid has a vision – an end to poverty – and we believe that vision can become a reality. We are striving to bring lasting change to the lives of the poorest communities. We work wherever there is great need, helping people to find their own solutions to the problems they face, irrespective of their religion, caste or creed. If you’re passionate about positive change across the world, then this job might be for you.
Christian Aid is looking for a Programme Manager to be responsible for leading, planning, managing and delivering the Malawi programme in line with Christian Aid’s vision and principles. The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of programmatic quality, demonstrating and reporting impact. The Malawi programme focuses on community health and HIV, climate change and disaster risk reduction, fair and sustainable economic development and profitable resilient agriculture. We are working to strengthen our value chain development work and engagement with the private sector.
The post-holder will be required to lead and manage a dynamic programme team. Programme leadership will need to be responsive to the changing environment in which we work, both externally and internally, whilst remaining focused on the objectives for the Malawi programme and the requirements of the PAN pre-requisites, including gender. The post-holder will have the ability to think at a strategic and policy level and to ensure that programmatic strategies and interventions are geared towards leveraging broader policy change. He/she will need the capability to network and promote sharing and learning with programme colleagues in the Africa Division and more broadly across Christian Aid.
Candidates must be educated to at least degree level in a development related discipline and have substantial experience of international development programme management. Experience of managing large back donor contracts, from donors such as EU, DFID and USAID, and of managing complex budgets and financial compliance issues is essential. He/she will demonstrate experience in designing and managing programmes that have leveraged policy change in Malawi. Strong strategic thinking skills and experience of managing a team are also a must.
