Rio Tinto Coal Mozambique (RTCM) is a newly established business within the Rio Tinto Group. It is currently producing coal from its Benga mine - located near Tete in the Moatize basin - supported by a corporate office in Maputo. RTCM has significant growth ambitions and is looking to expand operations across a series of additional mines over the coming years. In order to successfully deliver these mines, RTCM is also developing a portfolio of infrastructure projects that will support these operations over the long term.
We have an opportunity for a Superintendent Long Term Mine Planning to join the Resource Strategy & Technical team as RTCM continues to grow. You will develop long term to LOM mine plans that optimise the potential value of RTCM's business by applying best practice mine planning, optimisation and economic evaluation techniques. To provide technical and operational support to RTCM mine sites in collaboration with the respective Technical Services teams.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Develop optimised long term mine plans for RTCM's operating mines and undeveloped resources (as may be allocated).
- Collaborate closely with long term mine planning consultants on support projects and studies as required.
- Engage with operations to ensure that short and medium term site based plans are aligned with the current long term mine plan.
- Execute long term mine planning across RTCM whilst up-holding Rio Tinto Standards and Guidelines if available.
- Execute technical studies and projects as required.
- Undertake studies and make recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of mine plans in the creation of shareholder value and management of risk.
- To participate and/or assist site or group based continuous improvement projects.
- Mentor, train and assist in the development of Mining Engineers in RTCM's RS&T Long Term Mine Planning and even the respective Technical Services Teams on site as deemed beneficial.
- Actively contribute to a culture of safety, continuous improvement and cost effectiveness within RTCM
- Comply with all aspects of RTCM and Rio Tinto policies, procedures and Core Values.
- Create an environment supportive of Rio Tinto's HSE objectives by integrating HSE into long term mine planning work and executing the HSE leadership accountabilities in the RTCM HSEQ Management.
- Ensure the output from the strategic planning work delivers projects designed to provide safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable operating environments.
Your experience and skills should include:
- Degree in Mining Engineering
- 5+ years in resource sector or similar;
- Experience in short and long term mine planning of large integrated Open Pit operations and/or underground coal operations;
- Well-developed use and knowledge of mine design and scheduling software and techniques;
- Experience in evaluating, developing and executing mine plans;
- Understanding of the JORC requirements for Coal Reserve and Resource estimates.
